Things people ask us.
Isn't this a deepfake?
It is a generated voice, built with the person's consent from their own recordings, and marked as generated on every clip. That is what the law calls a deepfake and what we call keeping a voice. The difference is consent and honesty, and both are written down above.
My mother will never use an app.
Then she doesn't have to. Choose the phone-call option and Firelight rings her at the time she picks each week, asks her one story, listens, and thanks her. You can also record her yourself over Sunday dinner with the app in conversation mode.
What happens after they pass away?
Nothing changes technically. The readings still play, the archive is still yours, the questions are still answered from what they said. The companion never claims to be present, keeps sessions short, and sometimes points you back toward the living people who share the memories.
Can you build one from old recordings of someone who has already died?
Sometimes, and slowly. It needs documented agreement from the family who hold their rights, enough clean audio, and a review by us. We don't advertise it, because we'd much rather you did this with someone still here to tell the stories.
Which languages?
English and Polish at launch, including the Polish and English mix many families abroad speak. The voice keeps their accent. That is rather the point.
Where are the recordings kept?
In the EU, encrypted with a key that belongs to your family. Firelight staff cannot listen to them. You can download or delete everything at any time.
